How To Wash Clothes Exposed To Bed Bugs

The steps you need to take before washing your clothes are to first sort your clothes. Then wash your clothes with bed bugs and lastly drying them.

You will also want to make sure to store your clean clothes.

You don’t want to expose your clean clothes to the ones exposed to bed bugs.

 

Sorting Your Clothes

  • Place each item of clothing that is infested with bed bugs into its own plastic bag.
  • Remember to seal the bags in order to prevent bed bugs from moving into other areas of your home.

 

Washing Your Clothes

  • Tip each bag into the washer then and seal the empty bag.
  • Wash on the highest temperature available

 

Drying Your Clothes

  • When clothes are ready to be placed in the dryer make sure to again use the highest/hottest setting.
  • Dry for at least 30 to 45 minutes on High Heat
  • If you don’t want to wash the clothes you can because your only concern is killing the bed bugs place your clothes into the dryer

 

Storing Clothes

  • Immediately place the clothes coming out of the drying into a plastic bag.
  • Keep the clothes in the sealed plastic bag until you are home if you went to a laundromat.
  • Only remove your clean clothes out of the plastic bag if you have controlled the bed bugs in your home.
  • If you still have bed bugs then keep the bag sealed and only take out the clothes you need to wear to prevent them from getting reinfested.
